| Municipal Corporation has to perform obligatory and
optional duties welfare of weaker sections are an optional duty.
Aurangabad Municipal Corporation is the first Municipal Corporation in the
state to start Urban Poverty Eradication Cell. One Project Director, 2
Community Organizers, 3 Tailoring Instructors, 16 Balwadi teachers and 9
community organizers are working on honourim basis are working with
this cell. |

| In all 16 Balwadis/ Bal Sanskar Kendras being run by
this section. These centers are located in slum areas. Out of which one center
is run in the evening with special syllabus focusing on National Integration
and moral education. |

| Tailoring
Classes |

To encourage ladies from slums on self-help pattern
three centers have been started w.e.f. year 1995. State Govt. recognizes
the course as Certificate Course in Tailoring and Cutting. It is treated
equivalent to I.T.I. Certificate Course. In each centre 20 ladies can be
enrolled for the period of one year. Nominal fees Rs. 5/- Per Month and Rs.
65/- as examination fee being charged. On passing Annual Examination conducted
by State Technical Board, a certificate being awarded. The follow of survey
revealed that many of these trained ladies have started there own business.
Some of them have purchased sewing machine by way of loan. |

State and Central Govt. jointly sponser this
scheme. The main objective of this scheme is to uplift below poverty line
families living in urban areas. As per 1998 survey there are 25660 families
living BPL in the City. Under this scheme unemployed youth can avail financial
assistance up to Rs. 50000/- as project cost. The beneficiary has to contribute
5% as his share and on sanction of loan by the Nationalized bank, 15% subsidy
is sanctioned by the AMC. |

| Under Suvarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna unemployed
youth can participate in the training program, which is generally conducted
through Govt. recognized institutes. The duration of the course is 300 Hrs. or
3 months without any fees. For which the training institute gets Rs. 1000/- |

person. This committee is responsible for implementation of welfare schemes.

| Under Govt. sponsored scheme - five, Development of
Women & Child Welfare Groups have been established upto these groups are
eligible for getting loan from the bank. They can avail subsidy 50% of the
total project cost or Max. Rs. 2.50 lacks. This cell has encouraged women from
below poverty line families to form. Thrift and credit groups. It would be
relevant to mention here, that around 700 ladies are members and have credited
Rs. 7 lacks in various banks. DWCUA groups are eligible for getting Rs.25000/-
as rolling fund for development of their joint venture. A
Community, Development society has been formed and registered with the
Charity Commissioner's Officer. |
